  1. First there was the Snickers commercial that aired on Super Bowl Sunday featuring Betty White and now there’s a good chance that we’ll soon see her hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live.  At 88 Betty White must be thrilled with all of the media exposure she’s getting these days.  Could this be the beginning of the year of the senior?  If so, I wonder who the next senior celebrity will be. Cloris Leachman was a big hit on Dancing with the Stars last year. Tina Turner at 70 just finished up a very successful tour overseas. So I’m thinking, “Who Will Be the Next Senior Star” Why not a new TV show called, “Senior Idol”. Contestants could include 75-year old Sophia Loren? She’s still great looking and she’s got that multicultural appeal that advertisers look for. How about Shirley Maclaine? Jane Fonda?  Or locally Angela Hill?   I’d vote for her.

So Wednesday night at Salvatore’s after work party they had some delicious food and I made a small plate and one piece of pasta fell on the floor and I picked it up and did the sign of the cross like I always do and ate it. A listener walked up to me terrified that I ate something off the floor. Now many of us go by the rule that says if food drops on the floor and is only there for five seconds or less, it’s safe to pick it up and eat it. In fact, 53% of Americans believe if you drop anything from hot dogs to ice cream to toast on the floor and get it up in under five seconds it’s safe to eat. Now for me I have to do the sign of the cross that’s something my family always did. Well, now studies show that this may, in fact, be okay. The majority of foods can stay on the floor for up to thirty seconds without being contaminated by bacteria. So there. What do you think?

For those of you who just can’t get enough of our Who Dat boys, one of Magic 101.9’s favorite listener is back with another Saint’s Poem. This one’s called….

“BURY DAT”

BY DON LeCOCQ (pronounced “Le-Coke”)

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS

WE ARE GATHERD HERE TONIGHT

TO BURY THE PAST FOUR DECADES

AND LOOK AT OUR NEW FOUND MIGHT

OUR MANY YEARS OF TRAVEL

HAVE BEEN UP, BUT MOSTLY DOWN

NOW AT LONG LAST WE’RE SOARING

MILES HIGH ABOVE THE GROUND

THEY CALLED US ‘AINT’S” OR DID WE GIVE

THAT NAME UNTO OUR SELF

WE WORE THE BAGS, WE BOOED, WE CRIED

WE PUT OUR FAITH UP ON THE SHELF

THIS FOLLOWED US AROUND THE WORLD

FOR OH SO MANY YEARS

THEY LAUGHED AND MOCKED US AND OUR TEAM

AS WE SHED LAKES OF TEARS

BUT NOW MY FRIENDS WE ARE AT PEACE

THE “AINT’S” HAVE RUN THEIR COURSE

TODAY WE LAY THEM ALL TO REST

AS WE SCREAM UNTIL WE’RE HOARSE

THE CASKET CARRIES ALL THE BAGS

WE ONCE WORE ON OUR HEADS

THE PAST, THE WOES, THE SADDENED TIMES

TODAY WE MARK AS DEAD

AS WE MARCH AND AS WE RIDE

TO MARK THE END OF BAGS AND “AINT’S”

WE TRULY ALSO HONOR

OUR CHAMPION SUPER SAINTS

FELLOW WHO DATS GO INTO THE NIGHT

LET’S FINISH WHAT WE STARTED

TURN WHAT ONCE LIVED AS THE “AINT’S”

INTO THE DEAR DEPARTED

Celine of course is responsible for some great music here on Magic and now you can see her singing on the big screen. Now showing at theatres in Elmwood & Met, Celine: Through the Eyes of the World, the new documentary about Celine’s 2008-09 Taking Chances tour, it’s getting great reviews. One thing you find out quick about Celine is she is not only a great singer, a great business woman, a comedian but also can be a bulldog. In other words she knows what she wants and she makes it happen. So if you love Celine you’ll love seeing her storming around the stage in a succession of micro-mini dresses and gravity-defying stilettos. Belting out all your favorites and you’ll also get a peek at her son, Rene-Charles, a sweet boy with crazy hair and, apparently, nary a hammy bone in his body unlike his mommy.

(Not rated. Running time: 1 hour, 57 minutes. Now showing

So now what?

Posted in: Steve

Since Christmas it’s been non stop excitement.  Time flies when you’re having fun, can you believe March is almost here. But now what? No more Saints’ games, no more Parades, no more Parties. Well that’s what this time of year is all about.  Lent begins after a time of revelry when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ – his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection. In other words we eat more seafood then usual, a real sacrifice right. GO Jesus. I always give up meat till Easter. What did you give up?

The Olympics

Posted in: Johnny

Wow, six medals in one day for the U.S. At least three of those six were gold. Mark the date, Wednesday February 17th was the best day ever for the U.S. in Winter Games history. But as you know with any sport there are winners, and there are losers.

Top Five Signs Your Athletes Didn’t Do Too Well At The Olympics:

1. The entire time they were at the games, they never broke a sweat.

2. Gets off the plane wearing t-shirt that says, “I went to Vancouver and all I got was this lousy shirt”.

3. The only time your national anthem was played was during the opening ceremonies.

4. Track team really bummed out when they realized track was a Summer Olympics event.

5. The only thing your athelets are wearing around their necks are “Mardi Gras Beads”.

With the City and region still in a state of euphoria I thought I’d post another Saints poem from one of our faithful listeners Don LeCocq, (pronounced Le-Coke). The name of the poem is….

YOU BLESSED US BOYS

THE GATES ARE CLOSED, THE DOORS ARE LOCKED

THE CLEATS ALL PUT AWAY

THE HELMETS, PANTS AND JERSEYS

STORED FOR ANOTHER DAY

THE SCREAMS HAVE STOPPED, AS TRUTH SETS IN

OUR HEARTS FEEL PURE DELIGHT

WHAT A YEAR OUR TEAM HAS HAD

TO REACH ITS NEW FOUND HEIGHT

WHEN WE LOOK BACK PLUS 40 YEARS

AND THINK WHAT WE’VE BEEN THRU

IT SURELY IS HARD TO BELIEVE

WHAT WE NOW SEE IS TRUE

WE’VE SEEN THE MUFFS, THE DROPS, THE SLIPS

THE BRUISES, CUTS AND STITCHES

BUT NOW THIS TEAM HAS RAISED ITS HEAD

AND GONE FROM BAGS TO RICHES

AS ALL THE WORLD VIEWS OUR GREAT JOY

IT CAN’T BE HARD TO SEE

HOW MUCH WE LOVE OUR MIGHTY SAINTS

AND THAT GORGEOUS FLEUR DE LIS

OUR LOVE AND JOY IS EVERYWHERE

JUST LOOK ON EVERY FACE

THE SAINTS HAVE GIVEN BROGHERHOOD

TO EVERY COLOR, CREED AND RACE

I’VE NEVER SEEN OUR PEOPLE

AS CLOSE AS THEY ARE NOW

MY HOPE, MY WISH, AND YES MY PRAYER

IS FOR ALL TO KEEP THAT VOW

TO EVERY PLAYER AND EACH COACH

NO NAMES ARE NEEDED HERE

YOU WORKED AND CLICKED AND WON AS ONE

YOU REACHED YOUR GOAL IT’S CLEAR

OUR CITY HAS BEEN BATTERED

FLOODED, BURNED AND TORN APART

BUT GOD WAS GOOD TO SEND YOU HERE

TO BUILD AND FILL OUR HEART

THANK YOU SAINTS FOR ALL YOU’VE DONE

WE’RE BLESSED WITH YOUR ENDEAVOR

THE LOVE AND HOPE AMONG US ALL

WILL SURELY LAST FOREVER
