We can smell it and have seen the oily water pictures but new pictures of our beloved innocent birds covered in oil are just heart wrenching. For every bird they save you know there are many they cannot.  Personally it’s very upsetting and breaks my heart. I have offered to volunteer to help the wildlife affected by the oil spill. Rescue workers will let me know if we are needed. They are using Dawn dishwashing soap to scrub off the oil which has been used to clean oil off animals before. This bird is normally white with a yellow head but was covered in thick, black oil. Only a few have been brought in but rescuers expected many more to come in throughout the day.

OMG… Celine Dion has constructed a titanic-sized water park in the backyard of her $12.5 million mansion in Florida. Every now and then the kids will ask me to take out the slip & slide so I guess this is a very rich persons version.   The private aquatic playland include’s a twisty water slide, two Olympic-sized pools and a lazy river. She can certainly afford the backyard renovations. Celine was paid $100 million by Caesar’s Palace for her five-year “A New Day” concert series and  even built a new 4,296-seat venue, The (Celine) Colosseum for her. And she’s about to bank another $100 million more to kick off another tour at Caesar’s Palace in March 2011. She’ll perform 70 shows a year for three years. Let me see if I can find that slip & slide.

Sandra Bullock now says that she and her loser cheater husband, Jesse James, adopted a baby boy in January and that, in the wake of his infidelity, and divorce she plans to raise the 3 1/2-month old child as a single mother. The baby, whose name is Louis (Lew-ee) Bardo Bullock, was born in New Orleans. She chose that name because she heard Louis Armstrong’s song “What A Wonderful World” playing in her head when she first saw him or maybe remembers hearing it on Magic 101.9 (Hummmm). Sandra said she was blind-sided by her husbands  infidelity and, while feeling “sad and scared,” is filing for divorce and is finalizing Louis’ adoption as a “single parent.”

Every day new websites pop up on the Internet, some of them end up being redundant, but every once in a while you’ll find a cool new one that really fills a need. Here are three cool new websites: EPassportphoto.com – Now that you need a passport to travel pretty much anywhere outside of the U.S. there are more people applying for passports and that means longer lines and wait times. So, anything that helps you skip steps in this process would be welcome. This website allows you to upload a photo of yourself to this free site and it will help you crop the image to fit. U.S. passport regulations. Then you print it on photo paper and send it in with your application. Bookseer.com – When you finish a book that you like and are at a loss to know what to read next this is the site for you. Just type in any book’s title and this site compiles comparable suggestions based on information from Amazon and LibraryThing.  Webmii.com – If you’re curious about your identity then head to this site which searches for your name across Facebook, Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and Twitter. It then organizes the relevant results so that you can review them.

So I take a 1/2 day so I can head out and enjoy the Jazz Fest. I was scheduled to introduce Lionel Richie at the Acura stage at 5:30. So we get out there and within 5 seconds the 30% chance of rain becomes “Let’s start building an Ark”. It was that bad. Storming, lightning, thunder and when that happens at the Jazz Fest as you know it became the Mud Fest. So we run and hunker down under a tent at the Miller Beer hospitality tent (Thanks Guys) and watch it pour down. As we scan over the fest we can see nobody at any of the food booths. No line for Crawfish Monica, or Crawfish Bread or any of the things we are starving for so I look at my wife and say let’s go. Luckily they had Miller Poncho’s at the Tent so we geared up and sloshed over to pig out on our favorites in the pouring rain. I did feel sad for all the food vendors as we passed they begged us to buy something from them as customers were hard to find. So later about 4:45 it slacked up and I needed to head over to introduce Lionel Richie. So I get to the Acura stage and they tell me I have to go to the Artist entrance in the back of the stage where all the bands drive their vans and SUV’s in to unload. Well think of wet mud track where vehicles have been driving thru all day, that’s what I had to walk thru. No I didn’t bring my shrimp boots like alot of people, had just my everyday tennis shoes which were already soaked. By the time I made it in my Poncho thru the Mud hole it looked like my legs had been dipped in chocolate. I could no loner see my shoes I was walking with 2 big mud pies attached to them. So I finally find a big puddle to wash the Mud off then went to find the Jazz fest people backstage about Lionel Richie and I hear the words, “We have problem”. So the Jazz fest people who couldn’t have been nicer say “Lionel’s People don’t want me onstage”. But my Jazz fest connection girl says just sit tight she’s working on it. So while I’m there a black SUV drives up and Lionel Richie gets out and I introduce myself and mention our mutual friend and we talk briefly before his people start to grad me and block my view of him and I say these guys won’t let me introduce you and he says. “What, why not”, and they hurry him off into a tent and his peps give me a very mean look. So after a while and another inch of rain the Jazz fest girl comes back and says the Lionel people will let you get onstage but do not want you to mention him at all. So whatever, I go onstage and they have a mike for me and I do my thing and say “This next Act”, He’s a great performer never mentioning Lionel Richie, so the crowd goes wild and I get off and go get a spot in the crowd and he comes on and does a great performance. It was a mess but I felt lucky to have that Mud fest moment in my life that only a few experience at the Jazz fest. By the way Saturday 80% of rain never showed up.

Fran Lasee rolled a perfect 300 game this year in Winconsin. At 89 years old he is the oldest person to roll a perfect game. The United States Bowling Congress listed others who have accomplished the feat.

300 games, oldest bowlers…

Berry Thomas, Nashville — (87 years, 11 months)

Joe Dean, Columbus, Ohio — (87 years, 6 months)

Jim Hoeh, Bay City, Michigan — (87 years, 26 days)

Joe Norris, San Diego, CA — (86 years, 10 months)

I only hope i’m still able to throw the ball down the lane when and if I live to be 87, yet alone bowl a perfect game of 300.

Some new data from the Census shows Women just as likely than Men to have completed college and are virtually equal in earning advanced degrees.
The Census Bureau, highlighting an accelerating trend of educational gains for women that has helped shield them from recent job losses. The new figures show that about 29 percent of all women in the U.S. have at least a bachelor’s degree, compared to 30 percent of men. Measured by raw numbers, women already surpass men in undergraduate degrees, by roughly 1.2 million. Women also have drawn even with men in advanced degrees, making up roughly half of those with a master’s, professional degree or doctorate. At current rates, women could surpass men in total advanced degrees this year, even though they lag in business, science and engineering.

I’m sad to say that Drew Brees has accepted the offer to be on the cover of Madden NFL 2011.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the game, there seems to be some sort of curse or jinx associated with being on the cover of the game. The curse is a surprising number of  players that appear on the cover are either injured or had a sub-par season that year. Here are some examples…

2003 — Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick broke his leg that summer.

2005 — Baltimore Ravens Linebacker Ray Lewis went on Injured Reserve with a wrist injury that ended his season.

2006 — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb had a season ending hernia injury.

2007 — Seattle Seahawks tailback Shaun Alexander broke his foot and only played in 6 games.

2008 — Vince Young was injured the first week of the season and was replaced by Kerry Collins.

2009 — Brett Favre played poorly the 2nd half of the season with a torn bicep.

Last year – Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Troy Polamalu and Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald appeared together on the cover, and although Fitzgerald had an All-Pro season, Polamalu tore his knee up, played in only 5 games and may have cost Pittsburgh a playoff spot.

Coincidence? Maybe, but I would’nt want Drew to test fate, but he did.
