It comes around quick Sunday May 8th is Mothers day. It’s right around the corner: that special day once a year when we celebrate moms. And if you’re scrambling for some last-minute gift ideas, or just holding out hope that your husband actually remembers this year, consider this: Perhaps the best gift you’ll receive this year isn’t going to come in a package, and it may just come from the person you least expect—yourself.  Flowers, cards, and breakfast in bed are great, but at the end of the day, what mothers really want is to feel a real, deep, and lasting emotional bond with their kids, right. This Website can help you, www.TheGoToMom.com.  It’s all about the concept of having a deep, emotional connection with your kids and while that may seem like a daunting task especially for teens, it’s not only possible for moms to make that crucial connection with their kids; it’s actually not as complicated as you may think. “There are simple changes that any parent can make that will work wonders for creating the bond with her child that she desires. And once those small changes become habits, they will come naturally to her, all the time.”The Website talks about seven simple ways that you can work toward building a deep, emotional bond with your kids, so that every day can feel like Mother’s Day. From playtime to down time. For young kids, Make time for playtime. Not only does play release energy and provide opportunities to be involved in a child’s world, Plug in…emotionally. Children can experience a wide range of emotions each day (or even each hour, for that matter!); from happy to sad, frustrated to triumphant—what may seem to us a trivial moment can be a big deal for them. Make the effort to “plug in” to what their children are feeling and that understanding what they are feeling and why can create a bond between you that is unparalleled. It takes patience, time, and, at times, a lot of effort, but the bond you build is totally worth it.” Build in a few extra minutes to your day. Whether you are rushing out the door for school in the morning, loading up for big brother’s baseball practice, or just heading out to run errands with kids in tow, building in a few minutes can make transitions much less painful for both you and your children and can provide crucial opportunities for bonding. “If you can make it into the car without a screaming fight, then you have a great opportunity to spend those extra 10 or 15 minutes really talking with your kids. Fess up when you slip up. Nobody’s perfect—and as parents it’s a given that we will make mistakes as we learn and grow alongside of our kids. Your child learns that emotions are manageable, and he will feel comfortable expressing them in an appropriate manner. And that includes admitting when you’re wrong and saying that you’re sorry. Let your kids be themselves. Loving your children’s individuality isn’t hard—you appreciate and adore the quirks and habits that make them who they are. When it comes to kids, parenting and discipline are not a one-size-fits-all bargain. You have to respect your children for whom they are—and that includes honoring the ways they are different from one another and different from you. If you are a social butterfly with a son who is painfully shy, you have to respect that in him and not try to force your own behaviors and habits on him. Replace your anger with empathy. Make no mistake; kids can test the tempers of even the most mild-mannered mothers. When tantrums take over and tempers flare, it can be a constant challenge to keep your cool. Pick your battles and know that nothing is so important that it warrants extreme anger and coerciveness with your child. If you need to, walk away and take a deep breath, then return to your child to start over. And if you do lash out, don’t avoid the issue or act as if it never happened—this only teaches children to deny their own poor behavior.

Take time for yourself on a regular basis. On special holidays like Mother’s Day, moms will often be treated to breakfast in bed, a day at the spa, or maybe even a little “free” time to do something for themselves. However, most mothers get caught up in the hectic schedule of everyday life and neglect to take time out for themselves on a regular basis, It doesn’t always have to be a big event—tacking on 30 extra minutes to an errand to grab a latte or flip through magazines at the bookstore can work wonders for restoring your sanity and recharging your batteries.

If you think you have what it takes to be a star, but you haven’t been able to get an audition with a record company, or you just don’t have the time to go through the rigorous auditions of American Idol, then this just may be the thing you’re looking for.

Mercury Records is taking and old-school approach to finding talent. The company is looking for a male singer between the ages of 18 and 26 who can sing both rock and country. The label is asking singers to submit their versions of one of three songs: “Forever and Ever Amen” by Randy Travis, “Rock and Roll Never Forgets” by Bob Seger or “Darlin” by British singer Frankie Miller. If you don’t know the songs, the Mecury website provides the songs for you to download.

There’s no contest, no reality show with rude judges to embarrass you on national T.V., and the submissions go straight to the A & R department.

Details are at www.mercurytalent.com

Remember Singer George Michael? He’s returns to putting out new music with his remake of Stevie Wonder’s “You and I” specifically as a gift to Prince William and princess-to-be Kate Middleton for the Royal Wedding. If you want to hear it click on the link below or you can download it for free from his website. I’m never gonna turn down a free song, but Michael hopes that for every download, listeners might contribute to the Prince William & Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund. The song is pretty good. I guess the big question is will the Royal couple dance to it at the Wedding?

Not that I’m a big Soap Opera fan although I’ll admit I catch “The Young & the Restless every now and then at 11pm on Soapnet. That’s only because I know Christian Leblanc who’s from here. But now the cancellation of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” sent shock waves through an already-reeling soap-opera industry. Remember last year, CBS killed off two of the longest-running daytime serials — “As the World Turns” and “Guiding Light” — which was already a major blow for an industry that was losing viewers. But ABC’s surprise twofer announcement seemed to confirm that one by one, broadcast networks are giving up on the idea of daytime Soaps. Lets face it Soaps may have been the butt of jokes for years for their melodrama and over-the-top story lines, but they provided an original hour (or half-hour) of content five days a week without reruns. Imagine “Mad Men” or “The Office” attempting that feat. I just interviewed 3 stars from Day’s Of Our Lives and they made a point to tell how grueling it is to grind out soap episodes with no rest and very little time between script and air date, leaving performers to refer to their soap jobs as “acting boot camp.” Yet let’s admit that Soaps have produced major, award-winning stars such as Morgan Freeman, Julianne Moore, Meg Ryan, Marisa Tomei and Laurence Fishburne, to name just a few. For generations of loyal fans including our Mom’s who were known to get wrapped up in all the tiny machinations of every character, soaps truly were the first must-see TV.

So did shows like Dallas, Dynasty, Peyton Place, Melrose Place, and today Grey’s Anatomy’ and Desperate Housewives erode the audience over the years? A gradual loss of fans led to less advertising revenue — which didn’t impact soaps right away. But when the soaps became too costly to support the loss of revenue, their descent accelerated. So what’s more popular than soaps? CBS replaced “Guiding Light” and “As the World Turns” with “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Talk,” The “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” time slots will be filled by “The Chew” and “The Revolution” — all talk, game or lifestyle shows. I guess the next big question is how long it will take before daytime viewers get tired of yet another cooking show or weight-loss show.

Wow so my Dad calls and says, “Hey ya watching the Hornets” and I say “No, is the game over?” and he says’, “There about to beat the Lakers in LA!” So I run to the TV and put it on and watch the last 8 minutes of a great game. So apologies to the Hornets for not believing they had a chance. I mean they lost the last few games but did get into the playoffs but had to play the Lakers, one the NBA”s best teams so I wasn’t alone. Nobody gave the hornets a chance especially with one of their best players Davis West out for the season with a leg injury. But The Hornets pulled off a stunner in the first game Sunday and stung the two-time defending champs, the Los Angeles Lakers, in LA so they have another game Wed night them come home to the hive this weekend which should be really buzzing.  I’d love for you to be there so listen all week for your chance to call in and win free tickets to the Hornets playoff game this Sunday night on Magic 1019

TOP TAX PROCRASTINATING CITIES

If you live in Houston and your taxes aren’t done yet, you probably aren’t alone. That city leads the latest TurboTax list of the Top Tax Procrastinating Cities for a second year in a row, and the fifth time in ten years.

New York City also continues its record of being on every list since TurboTax began tracking filing data a decade ago.
More Texas cities complete the top five, with Austin once again holding the number four spot for a second year in a row, and San Antonio making its debut on the list at number five.

No need to panic today if you haven’t done your taxes. Today is not tax deadline day. Because this year your taxes aren’t due until Monday, April 18. Is this a late April fool’s joke no? Today (April 15) is Emancipation Day in Washington D.C., when the district celebrates the freedom of the slaves. It’s a local holiday, why we don’t have that Holiday is a good question but anyway the law says tax day may not fall on a weekend, or a holiday so you still have time to crunch the numbers over the weekend.
