We just lost our “World’s Longest Bridge Over Water”. Somebody else built a longer one that opened today. China has opened the world’s longest cross-sea bridge that beats the Causeway by 2.5 miles. The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge is 26 miles long and links China’s eastern port city of Qingdao to the island of Huangdao. The 110-foot wide bridge is the longest of its kind and cost more than 10 billion yuan (That’s $1.5 billion to you and me). The bridge passed inspections this week and opened today. The bridge supported by more than 5,000 pillars was built in four years. Guinness World Records will now make the change from the previous record holder for a bridge over water the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway to the Chinese bridge is they confirm is more than 2.5 miles longer.

Did you love Steven Tyler as a Simon replacement on American Idol? Producers of the show did, so he’s agreed to come back next season along with the big dawg himself, Randy Jackson. And why would Ryan Seacrest, give up that gig so he’s back. So that just leaves Jennifer Lopez as the sole holdout. So what’s her deal? Well, the others return was pretty much a given—Jenn has been publicly coy about her possible return to the show.”I don’t know,” she said “I haven’t been forced to make a decision and I’m glad about that because honestly I’m very kind of on the fence about it.”I  had an amazing time doing it and I loved it, but I have a lot of other things happening, and it’s going to come down to me making a choice of what I want to do for the next year and I’m just really enjoying the time of just waiting and seeing.” Sounds like to me someone was taking notes when they were taught how to get the most out of negotiations in superstar school.  By the way she made 12 mill on her inaugural season.

Madonna will soon find herself in a new kind of material world: inside a comic book.

The star will have her life story told in 32 pages by Bluewater Productions Inc., the latest celebrity to be part of its monthly line of “Female Force” comics.

The one-shot issue, due out in August for $3.99, will look at her life as it transformed from a little-known singer into a multimillion-record-selling entertainer and trendsetter.

So today I’m eating a Chicken salad sandwich at my desk while doing some computer work and someone comes in with a question and say’s, ‘Oh you’re eating, I’ll come back later”. And I said “No, I’m good, what’s up”. And she said that I should eat in the kitchen so nobody bothers me with work stuff on my lunch break. But most people around here do eat at the desk unless they go out of the office. Most people who bring lunch I see eating at their desks. Now I have when the weather is nicer walked to some nice bench or place under a tree to eat outside but its way too hot for that now. But after doing some research I found out most of us have eaten lunch while hunched over our desks. I found a study at the Cornell Food and Brand Lab that said it’s a bad habit.  People who eat at their desks eat more junk food, and they enjoy the food less than when they eat with a coworker. They say if you must eat at your desk, eat only hot foods.  Not only does this make desktop dining less convenient, but hot foods tend to be more nutritious than those you’d find in a vending machine, snack bar, or at the bottom of a desk drawer. Now that I’m finished my sandwich I know there’s a Hershey kiss somewhere in this drawer..I gotta go.

Cover of the NEWSWEEK Magazine.

In the new Newsweek magazine they imagine what Princess Diana would look like at 50, putting a digitally enhanced photo of her, alongside daughter-in-law Kate Middleton, on the cover of the latest issue. Diana, who appears trim with only a few wrinkles, would have reached her milestone birthday on July 1. In the cover story, Newsweek envisions that the Princess of Wales would have migrated to New York, dumped Dodi Al-Fayed, married twice more and made peace with her ex, Prince Charles, and his new wife Camilla. Newsweek adds that Diana would have enjoyed her new daughter-in-law and been best friends with Kate’s mother Carole Middleton. To me it’s a kind of ghostly sight: a computer-generated image of a stylish Princess Diana walking with Kate Middleton? Really. The article inside was written by Diana biographer and longtime provocateur Tina Brown. She’s also Newsweek’s editor-in-chief. As we all remember Diana was killed in a car accident in 1997 and would have turned 50 on Friday. In April, Middleton married Prince William, the oldest son of Diana and Prince Charles. So it is appropriate for this “What would she have been like?” article? Or is it shocking, brilliant or just plain cheap?

Well it’s been awhile since we heard any new songs from Barbra Streisand but no more…A new Barbra Streisand album is due out in August and it’s not a greatest hits. The new album will include songs Streisand has never recorded, including her first single “The Windmills of Your Mind.” They don’t reveal the name but I think it should be “She’s Like Butter”. The album will be out August 23rd

Scott Audette/Reuters

Just played Bruce Springsteen’s song ‘Dancing In The Dark” and reminded me I should post something about the great Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, whose funny onstage manner, soul-rooted style and brotherly relationship with Bruce Springsteen made him one of the most popular and beloved sidemen. He sadly died last week at a hospital in Palm Beach, Fla. He was 69. The cause was complications of a stroke he suffered. In a statement released Saturday night, Mr. Springsteen called Mr. Clemons “my great friend, my partner. With Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music,” he added. “His life, his memory and his love will live on in that story and in our band.”

The famous black and red jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the classic “Thriller” video has sold at auction for $1.8 million.

Darren Julien of Julien’s Auction was expecting to get anywhere from a quarter of a million to a half million for the jacket. The winning bidder was a commodities trader from Austin, Texas who say he will take the jacket on tour to raise money for children’s charities.

Beloved comedian Jerry Lewis has been hospitalized this evening in Sydney, moments before a scheduled appearance at a show on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation of Australia. “We would like to apologize to people who purchased tickets for tonight’s show,” said David Jack, the organization’s CEO, in a statement. “But in unforeseen circumstances Jerry was not well enough to take the stage.”  The 85-year-old comic legend, who has dealt with several health issues over the years, reportedly showed no signs of illness earlier in the day. In case you didn’t know he recently announced that after 45 years promoting treatment and a cure for so many children he calls “my kids,”  he is retiring as host of the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon that has become synonymous with his name. We all hope that his illness tonight is nothing serious. Get Well Jerry!

What is the most popular cereal brand in American grocery stores?

OK, let me give you some hints: It’s been General Mills’ top name since 1951, 10 years after it was introduced and if you’re a parent, you’ve vacuumed it from between the seats of the minivan and from under the highchair by the pound. Got it yet?   The answer is… Cheerios.

I mention it today because the cereal is 70 years old today. So for their B’day they get a free plug.
