Jefferson Parish officials have decided to temporally stop the red light camera program until they investigate the private company that manages the system. That’s very good news to those of us who have gotten tickets going through those intersections. While the intent of the red light cameras was to catch the abusers, critics say the motivation is a scam for the government to make more easy money.

I think it was an excellent idea to free up some officers from having to sit for hours to catch red light runners, when they could be protecting citizens from criminals. But somewhere along the way it got out of hand. I know a few people who were issued tickets and they were in the middle of the intersection when the light turned red. Now that’s being a little too picky. I thought the program was to catch the real abusers.  The one’s that come zooming through the intersection seconds after the light has turned red.
